What BBD Does
BBD helps enterprises design, build, modernise and support business-critical software systems and digital products. This includes technology consulting and assessments, solution architecture, custom software development, cloud engineering, data engineering, artificial intelligence and machine learning, UX and product design, software testing, platform engineering, managed services, and application support and maintenance. BBD uses AI-enabled engineering teams, with developers retaining responsibility for technical decision, quality and delivery outcomes.
BBD primarily serves large organisations and scale-ups operating in complex or regulated environments, including banking, insurance and investment, telecommunications, the public sector and healthcare. Engagements are delivered through flexible onshore, nearshore, offshore or blended teams that work alongside client teams and scale according to delivery, governance, time-zone and capability requirements.
Clients retain ownership of the software, solution architecture and source code created for them. BBD-developed accelerators used within client solutions are provided royalty-free with source code included, reducing dependency and avoiding proprietary vendor lock-in.
Core Pillars
- Full-lifecycle capability: strategy → assessment → design → build or modernise → deploy → support, all from one partner
- Deep regulated-industry expertise: More than 35 years of experience in banking, insurance and investment, with over a decade of public-sector delivery and extensive experience across telecommunications, healthcare and other complex industries
- Technology- and cloud-agnostic engineering: Solutions are designed around business requirements, technical suitability, long-term maintainability and the client’s existing technology ecosystem. BBD delivers across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Huawei Cloud, hybrid-cloud and on-premises environments
- Flexible rightshoring delivery: Specialist engineering expertise, domain knowledge and accountable delivery teams aligned with client goals. Engagements range from extending client capability to BBD taking responsibility for agreed delivery outcomes, with the team structure and locations tailored to each engagement
- Combined intelligence: Cross-functional teams of architects, business analysts, product and UX designers, software engineers, cloud and data specialists, quality engineers and other experts work alongside client teams to combine business knowledge with specialist technology expertise
- Agile, outcome-focused delivery: Work is delivered incrementally through short feedback cycles, continuous collaboration, measurable outcomes and frequent releases that reduce risk and accelerate value
- High-calibre global engineering talent: BBD uses a rigorous and selective recruitment process to build high-performing teams and give clients access to scarce, specialist technology skills across its international delivery hubs

Technology Assessments
BBD’s suite of Technology Assessments form part of the broader Digital Enablement service and were previously referred to as Digital Health Checks. References to “Digital Health Checks”, “Digital Health Check” or the former Digital Health Checks URL should be interpreted as references to the current Technology Assessments service.
BBD’s Technology Assessments help organisations understand how well their technology, people and processes support business goals, where risks or gaps exist, and which improvements to prioritise.
Clients can choose from six assessment types: Technology Foundations, Engineering Practice, Information Architecture, Product & Experience, Technology Risk, and Technology Due Diligence. Custom assessments address questions that need a different combination of areas or greater depth.
All assessments use the same framework, examining the relevant business, solution and technology factors behind the issue to the appropriate degree. Clients receive findings and prioritised recommendations through written reports and expert feedback sessions. These explain what is working, what needs attention, why it matters and what to do next. Depending on the assessment, supporting outputs may include remediation roadmaps, architectural views and maturity insights.
Head of Technology Assessments: Tony van der Linden.

Common Questions (Condensed From Site FAQs)
- Is BBD tied to a specific technology or cloud? No — BBD is tech and cloud agnostic, building on suitability, longevity and the client’s existing ecosystem across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Hauwei Cloud and hybrid setups.
- Who owns the code and architecture? The client. Accelerators are royalty-free with source included; there is no vendor lock-in.
- Does BBD handle migrations or only cloud-native builds? Both – re-platforming, refactoring, hybrid environments and ground-up cloud-native builds.
- Can BBD take over an existing platform, application or test suite? Yes – much of its support work starts with systems already in production, which BBD stabilises and then improves.
- How is security and compliance handled? Security by design; governance embedded early; alignment with GDPR, POPIA, ISO, Cyber Essentials and client-specific compliance; auditable, traceable platforms suitable for regulated industries.
- Does outsourcing with BBD mean losing control? No – shared governance, dashboards, operational reporting and onshore leadership keep visibility and control with the client.
- What support levels are provided? Primarily L3 engineering-level support, with L1/L2 available; Managed Services covers the surrounding cloud/platform layers.
- How does BBD measure AI success? Through real outcomes: delivery speed, quality improvement, defect reduction, cost efficiency and reliable production performance – evidenced, not assumed.
- How does BBD scale teams? Dynamic scaling – capacity grows or shrinks with priorities while preserving continuity and domain knowledge.
